Climate change

In 2007 we moved to a more robust reporting process, including the independent verification of CO2 emissions against the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. In line with the protocol, our CO2 emissions reporting is split across scope 1 and 2 emissions. Currently, emissions associated with air, train and hire car travel (Scope 3) are not collected. During 2009 we are addressing this by implementing a new travel management system which will allow us to capture and report on these omissions.

Notes
2 There are a number of buildings where the company leases space from a landlord (London Wood Street, Manchester, Portsmouth warehouse storage units), and there is a reliance on the landlord providing monthly electricity consumption figures. In previous years, some of these readings were estimates. Since the last period of reporting this has now been rectified and the accuracy of our data has improved markedly. However, there are still some known emissions, which do not make a significant or material difference to our total, namely: 4th quarter data for one warehouse missing, exclusion of emissions from two satellite branches, and exclusion of gas used for catering purposes at our London office.
3 An over-reporting for Scope 1 has been identified. Currently reported transport emissions relating to company cars effectively includes both business travel and private travel as no distinction can be made from the data currently used to generate emissions figures.
4 At present, figures do not include the use of hire cars, private cars used for business travel, train journeys, and flights. However, from March 2009 a company-wide online portal to purchase train tickets and flights will be in operation, and it will provide the necessary data for use in emissions reporting. In relation to the use of hire cars and private cars used for business purposes, expenses systems will be revised so that in the future, the company will report on these emissions more accurately. This is of particular importance as the business will no longer carry a pool car fleet as of March 2009.
5 Fuel oil has not previously been included in emissions reporting and therefore this represents and improvement over previous years emissions reporting.
6.UK L&P and FPI’s paper figures include plain A4, A4 letterhead, A4 4-hole and A3 paper and envelopes.
